Jakarta (ANTARA) – Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi on Sunday reviewed the progress of the manufacturing of red and white electric buses (BLMP) by state-owned rolling stock company PT INKA in Madiun, eastern Jakarta. Java.
“You have to calculate these buses to have a good level of security,” he pointed out.
He wanted to ensure that production of the electric buses could be completed in time to support the implementation of the G20 summit to be held in Bali in November 2022.
Therefore, Minister Sumadi requested PT INKA to speed up the manufacturing of electric buses so that there is still time for improvement before they can be used.
He also commended PT INKA for its collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology and some universities, in using national components reaching a level of more than 50%.

“It will open up new spaces for domestic products and opportunities for academics in research and innovation,” Sumadi remarked.
Sumadi also commended the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology for supporting research funding for the production of domestic electric buses.
“Currently we are building 30 electric buses and the number will continue to increase,” he said.

The red and white electric bus, which is built to be lighter than a regular bus, can travel 160 km and only takes 2.5 hours to be fully charged.
Several BLMP buses have also been ordered by the public bus company DAMRI to be operational in several regions such as Bandung and Surabaya.
During his visit to PT INKA, the Minister also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the research and development of hybrid and intelligent light trains led by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (BRIN), PT INKA, State Railway.
