With the implementation of this initiative called ‘Project Nerdy: Near and Ready’, seven in 10 Shakey store workers now spend only 30 minutes or less visiting their respective outlets, giving them more ease, security and convenience.

“The safety and well-being of our employees is of the utmost importance to us. We recognize that long commutes are a major discomfort and a huge expense item for our employees, and now with the pandemic underway, they are not only bothersome but potentially dangerous as well, ”said the President and CEO of Shakey, Vicente Gregorio, in a disclosure in the Philippines. Stock exchange on Friday.

Since June 2020, more than 100 employees have been relocated to points of sale closer to their homes. These transfers effectively reduced their average travel time by 20%.

The program is seen as important amid the multiple force majeure circumstances that have plagued the country since last year, from volcanic eruptions to a public health crisis.

Rashidi Forteza, one of the store managers at the Aseana branch of Shakey’s Pizza, is one of those who benefited from the redesign program.

“Before, I worked at Shakey’s Commonwealth in Quezon City, a two hour bus ride from Pasay where I live. Even though it was difficult for me, I loved working there because it was my first Shakey’s store, ”said Forteza.

“Due to the Nerdy project, I was reassigned to a point of sale closer to my home. Now I only spend 30 minutes on the road, sometimes less. I am even able to walk home. This is my form of exercise. I can spend more time with my family and rest longer. Less traffic, less stress, ”he continued.

The family business Po noted that creating a safe and healthy working environment for its employees is a cornerstone of its sustainability strategy, which also incorporates programs to manage resources, reduce the environmental footprint and develop healthier product innovations.
