As part of the meetings of the Italian Presidency of the G20, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies hosted, in virtual format, the second meeting of agricultural deputies on July 13 and 14, 2021.
The meeting was opened by Graziella Romito, who reported on the work and meetings of the G20 Chief Agricultural Scientists (MACS) and chaired the negotiations leading up to the G20 Agriculture Ministers’ communiqué.
At the heart of the meeting were the themes of resilience and risk management in agriculture, which were analyzed on the basis of data collected by FAO and OECD on the challenges faced by G20 countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. Countries stressed the need for adequate tools to deal with different types of risks in agriculture and early warning systems.
G20 agriculture ministers will meet in Florence on September 16 for the G20 Open Forum on Sustainable Agriculture and September 17-18 for the G20 ministerial meeting which will focus on the sustainability and resilience of agricultural systems and food.
